Getting the Cold Brew Coffee Bug!

I have always loved coffee. I like my coffee strong and black.  Though I would not consider myself a huge coffee drinker by volume.  I generally drink only one 16oz travel sized cup in the morning and that is pretty much it.    I also don't do caffeine after lunch as it seems to keep me awake at night.

Another fun fact is my wife doesn't like coffee at all.  She thinks it tastes disgusting.  So it doesn't make a lot of sense for me to have a big multi-cup brewing system.  If I made any extra it would just go to waste.  If I put the leftovers in the frig it just doesn't taste all that great when you reheat it.  And it seems too weak to stand up to ice in iced coffee.  So it never seemed worth it to make a big pot of coffee.

I had tried various single cup coffee makers over the years and did finally get a Keurig K-Cup coffee maker from Costco.  I really love the convenience of the Keurig and even got the cost of brewing the coffee way down by using reusable K-Cups and grinding my own coffee.  But there was something not quite right about the design of the Keurig, I went though 3 of them in a little over three years.  It seemed like they would last for about 11 months and then stop working.  Luckily Costco has a great return policy.  The first two times they broke I was able to just return them for a new one.  But the last one lasted about 14 months so it made it past the 12 month warranty.  I picked up a cheap single cup maker at walmart, it was doing ...ok.  Kind of a pain but it makes coffee.

Then I happened upon this video from DIY Tryin.  Patrick Norton is one of my favorite tech video bloggers and it looked easy enough, so I decided to give it a try.  I have been making Cold Brew Coffee ever since.

After making my first batch, pretty much as depicted in the video I was hooked on the taste of cold brewed coffee.   Though filtering out the grounds was a bit of a pain since I didn't have that nice funnel filter gadget that they had.

So then I came up with a really easy way to make cold brew with a lot less fuss.

Take a look at the method I came up with: Easy Cold Brewed Coffee System
